Arriving in Curaçao by cruise ship? SmartWheels is located directly at the Mega Cruise Terminal, just a short walk from the pier. Step off your ship, walk to our rental desk, and drive away in minutes. No shuttle bus, no taxi, no waiting.

Renting a car for the day is the best way to see Curaçao during your port stop. Instead of paying for an overpriced shore excursion that visits only two or three tourist spots, you can explore the entire island on your own terms. Drive to beaches the tour buses never reach, eat lunch at a local restaurant in Banda Abou, and return to the terminal at your leisure before the ship departs.

How It Works for Cruise Passengers

We recommend booking your rental online before your arrival so your car is guaranteed and ready when you dock. Walk from the ship to our desk at the Mega Cruise Terminal. Show your driver’s license, collect your keys, and you are on your way. When your day of exploration is done, return the car to the same spot at the terminal, hand back the keys, and walk back to your ship.

Day rentals are available for all cruise passengers. You do not need to rent for multiple days. Just pick the vehicle that fits your group and enjoy a full day of freedom on the island.

Popular Day Trip Routes from the Cruise Terminal

West Coast Beach Run (4–5 hours)

Drive from the terminal along the coast to Playa Kenepa Grandi, Playa Lagun, and Playa Kalki. These are some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean and they are all within 45 minutes of the port. Stop for fresh seafood at Playa Fòrti on the way back.

Willemstad and Culture Tour (3–4 hours)

Drive five minutes into the city center and explore the UNESCO World Heritage streets of Punda and Otrobanda. Visit the floating market, the Queen Emma pontoon bridge, and the colorful Handelskade waterfront. Park near the city center for a few dollars and explore on foot.

Christoffel Park and Shete Boka (5–6 hours)

For active travelers, drive to Christoffel National Park on the northwest tip of the island. Hike the trails, then visit Shete Boka National Park to watch waves crash through natural rock formations. An SUV is recommended for this route.

Snorkeling Circuit (4–5 hours)

Drive to Playa Porto Mari for some of the island’s best reef snorkeling, continue to Playa Lagun to spot sea turtles, and finish at Klein Knip for a relaxing swim. Bring your own gear or rent it at the beach.

What Cruise Passengers Need to Know

You need a valid driver’s license and a credit or debit card. No deposit is required with SmartWheels. Curaçao drives on the right side of the road. Fuel stations are plentiful on the main roads. We recommend filling up before heading west. Most beaches are free or charge a small entrance fee. Bring cash for beach parking and local food stands.
